LEO IS OUT OF SURGERY !!

The vet called and he is waking up, and the surgery went well.

He said they come in at a dimple in the skin at the spine that they can see once they shaved him. They dissect slowly working their way down til they are unattaching everything that is attached and should not be. He said some think that the nerves are basically fried from the start, but he said there were quite a few surprisingly still intact and were laying well.

He is hoping those will function. He sounded optimistic, but said there is just know way of knowing other than working with him and rehabbing him like he will feel everything back there again.

Along the way we will find out what is going to work and what is not. He said he will be sent home with a rehab schedule and regimen. He mentioned that since he was obviously born unable to feel his rear, he will have to learn how to do that if all goes well. One of the rehab things involves rubbing peanut butter on his rear so he will have interest in the area back there!! I am sure that will make him a hit with other dogs!

He will be monitored at the clinic for a couple days. After that, Jewlz his Foster Mom, will be able to take him home.

Thanks everyone for thinking of Leo today, I know it helped!

Leo is having surgery tomorrow!

Tomorrow little Leo (now 9 months old) will have surgery to un-tether his spinal cord from the vertebrae in his back. I pray all goes well, and that he will not only have a successful surgery, but a miraculous recovery. Please think about this young bullie as he goes under tomorrow. We are all excited for this opportunity he is being given, but also very nervous, as surgery of any kind is risky!
